Drive-S

Every Sony CD receiver shares a chassis (platform), designed to improve sound quality and durability. "Drive-S," as the chassis is known, includes the CD mechanism, audio stages, 12-volt power supply and tuner section- everything behind the faceplate.

The CD mechanism includes an improved suspension to resist shocks, a new motor that draws less power and a fast new low-current pickup that improves durability and CD playback accuracy.

In the audio section, there's a 52W x 4 S-MOSFET Power IC that produces clearer, more accurate sound, less distortion and a higher Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio than previous designs. The headunit's power consumption has been reduced to half that of previous designs, making it more durable and reduces the heat it generates. The bottom line for Drive-S is that all Sony CD receivers have improved durability and excellent sound quality, with the industry's highest S/N ratio -120dB. You'll hear the difference.
