Dome driver

A dome drivers diaphragm is in the shape of a "dome", or convex. A dome driver features a voice coil that sits on the speaker diaphragms perimeter. For this reason, dome drivers are typically in use for tweeters and midrange drivers only. As the dome becomes larger, it becomes more unstable and more difficult to control, and greater tolerances in the design and construction are required. Dome drivers are typically more expensive than either the balanced dome or cone speakers.

Because of the specific shape of the speaker diaphragm, off-axis response is often quite good. A dome shaped speaker diaphragm tends to spread sound waves evenly in a 180 degree spread. Dome tweeters and midrange drivers are typically found in more expensive speakers as they cost more to manufacture, but often sound better than other types.
