D-Bass II

It's a unique low-frequency enhancement system which provides exceptional sound quality improvements in a moving vehicle. Since low frequencies are typically masked by wind and road noise, the average car stereo system lacks low frequency content. That's one reason why subs are so popular. Bass boosts, loudness and tone controls don't really address this situation because they also increase mid-bass and midrange frequencies. This causes the music to sound muddy or "boxy". Dynamic Bass circuitry is specially designed to increase the level of low frequencies only, without effecting the rest of the audio spectrum.

D-Bass provides 8, 13 or 18dB of enhancement, as compared to the typical bass control's 10dB max. This boost occurs in a "shelving" configuration, primarily effecting frequencies at 75Hz and below, rolling off at approximately 12dB per octave.

The convenient D-Bass control allows the user to easily select between varying levels of bass enhancement. The D-Bass display provides confirmation that the feature has been activated. In those models which include Auto Level Adjust the boost effect is linked to the volume control so the D-Bass level is automatically reduced as the volume is increased. This ensures the effect doesn't overpower the speakers at higher volumes.

Probably the most effective use of D-Bass is in a system where nothing is changed from the factory components, except the head unit. By simply installing a Sony head unit that includes D-Bass, most OEM systems can sound as if a subwoofer has been added.

With Sony's D-Bass system, anyone can afford to have a system with surprisingly good low-end response by simply buying a single piece-a Sony D-Bass head unit
