Bluetooth

Bluetooth™ technology is how mobile phones, computers, and personal digital assistants (PDAs), not to mention a broad selection of other devices, can be easily interconnected using a short-range 2.4 GHz wireless connection. Using this technology, users can have all their mobile and fixed electronic Bluetooth™ enabled devices be totally coordinated. The range of coverage on Bluetooth™ devices is typically 30 feet (maximum) and once the initial registering or "pairing" of the devices is done, they can connect automatically whenever they come into range with one another.

Sony's Bluetooth™ headunits provide cutting edge communication compatibility with Bluetooth™ mobile phones and audio devices. The Bluetooth™ connectivity of these head units is everything you would expect in a phone companion. They offer the ability to place and receive calls right from the front panel or with the wireless remote. A phonebook that will store up to 50 of your most used phone numbers is just a few taps of the joystick away. When you make or receive a call, they have a built in microphone and mute the audio while channeling the phone conversation through one of the vehicle’s speakers while on a call. You can even select which front speaker (Front Left, Front Right, or Both) the to use for listening to the caller’s voice.

The Bluetooth™ headunits also support Bluetooth™ enabled audio devices using A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution) profile.

Normally when you connect a mobile phone to the to a Bluetooth™ device you are connecting in the HFP (Hands Free Profile). This allows support of all the call functions that you would normally utilize for Bluetooth™ voice communication. During times when you are not talking on the phone, you can utilize the Bluetooth™ communication link to connect a portable audio device into the headunit for completely wireless 20Hz-20KHz audio transmission. These types of Bluetooth™ devices are available that connect to MP3 players or iPods (or other audio devices) that allow you to broadcast with the ease of FM modulation, but through the A2DP Bluetooth™ Profile, you transmit the audio at full bandwidth for up to a CD quality audio signal.
