9 Frequencies, 5 Output Levels

RF Changer package application flexibility is most important in a product that is meant to fit in a variety of installations. Factory installed stereo systems vary significantly from vehicle to vehicle, as different as the radio markets through which they are driven. For this reason, Sony offers adjustability for the two main parameters in an RF changer package.

In each radio market, radio stations tend to be evenly spread across the FM radio bandwidth. The transmitting frequencies are distributed this way when possible to reduce adjacent station interference. The specific frequencies used are inconsistent between markets however. The RF changer package user (or installer) can choose between 9 different frequencies for modulation. In most cases, at least one of the available modulation frequencies will be void of an FM radio station.

Since the adjustment for frequency is programmable right from the front panel display, it's easy to change the modulation frequency should the system be used in another market, in which the original modulation frequency is taken up by a station. And it's easy to switch back when the user returns to the original market.

Since the sensitivity specification can vary significantly in various factory installed FM radios, Sony also offers a 5 level adjustment for output. For those tuners that tend to be sensitive, the RF changer's output can be lowered to reduce distortion. For those insensitive tuners, the output can be raised, to better match overall gain.

The level control is also accessable right through the front panel display. The user can change this at any time to better match system gain to the specific music type being played. Classical music tends to be recorded at a lower level, in which case the output can be raised. Popular music tends to be recorded at higher levels, so the output level can easily be adjusted downward.
