You may be wondering, "What on earth is Bluetooth™?" Bluetooth™ technology is how mobile phones, computers, and personal digital assistants (PDAs), not to mention a broad selection of other devices, can be easily interconnected using a short-range 2.4 GHz wireless connection. Using this technology, users can have all their mobile and fixed electronic Bluetooth™ enabled devices be totally coordinated. The range of coverage on Bluetooth™ devices is typically 30 feet (maximum) and once the initial registering or "pairing" of the devices is done, they can connect automatically whenever they come into range with one another.
Sony's MEX-BT5000 headunit provides cutting edge communication compatibility with Bluetooth™ mobile phones and audio devices. It's packed with popular features supporting a wide range of auxiliary devices, 52w x 4 high power outputs, user adjustable preamp outputs, high security detachable faceplate and cutting edge cosmetics. Ideal for those of you who enjoy your music and welcome integrated extensions of your Bluetooth™ mobile phone and audio devices.
The Bluetooth™ connectivity of the MEX-BT5000 is everything you would expect in a phone companion. It offers the ability to place and receive calls right from the front panel or with the wireless remote. Included in the MEX-BT5000 is a phonebook that will store up to 50 of your most used phone numbers - just a few taps of the joystick away. When you make or receive a call, it has a built in microphone and mutes the audio while channeling the phone conversation through one of the vehicle’s speakers while on a call. You can even select which front speaker (Front Left, Front Right, or Both) the MEX-BT5000 uses for listening to the caller’s voice.
The Sony MEX-BT5000 also supports Bluetooth™ enabled audio devices using A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution) profile.
Normally when you connect a mobile phone to the MEX-BT5000 you are connecting in the HFP (Hands Free Profile). This allows support of all the call functions that you would normally utilize for Bluetooth™ voice communication. During times when you are not talking on the phone, you can utilize the Bluetooth™ communication link to connect a portable audio device into the MEX-BT5000 for completely wireless 20Hz-20KHz audio transmission. These types of Bluetooth™ devices are available that connect to MP3 players or iPods (or other audio devices) that allow you to broadcast with the ease of FM modulation, but through the A2DP Bluetooth™ Profile, you transmit the audio at full bandwidth for up to a CD quality audio signal.
Selecting a Bluetooth™ Audio device can be done in the SOURCE menu once the Bluetooth™ device has been successfully paired with the MEX-BT5000 headunit.
There is an impressive list of connectivity options and capabilities for placing and receiving calls as you would expect from Sony, but most of all it’s really a seamless and safe way to place and receive calls while enjoying all the benefits of a top shelf Sony mobile audio component.
The MEX-BT5000 is the future of blending entertainment with communications in the car.
